Making Money Blogging

I know this is not the usual content of my articles, but it is on my mind.
Many of my readers also have blogs. We use Google Adsense and other Advertising programs such as Widgetbucks, Paydotcom, Bidadvertiser and many others.

We also want readers, so we use sites like MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog, Linkreferal and also many others.

Does this all help?

Well, my readership has increased but I am still making little monies. For Google and a lot of the others it is based on Pageviews. Pageviews is how many pages are clicked in your blog where ads are placed. Other income is based on how many ads were clicked on, on your site.

Then some are commissions from products sold where the reader went and found the product they bought from your site.

Now I am not a Blogging Genius, actually with this subject I am a Blogging Novice.

I am like most of you; I go to a blog and read the articles. Sometimes I will click to see the comments, or if new at that site, go to older posts to read more of the writer’s stories.

I do not go on a clicking frenzy to click on everything I see. But, this is how you make more money. Someday if I can learn how, I will set my home page where it only shows part of my article and you need to click to go to the full story.

I guess what I am saying is, I am not going to get rich, or even make enough to buy groceries blogging; I will just continue to write about my life, observations and experiences.

I hope you will continue to visit and enjoy my stories. I just wrote this after being discouraged by looking at my revenue, or lack of it.

Hi Bruce - I'll track it down but there is a trick you can use in Blogger to be able to use the "read more" function. I was using it when my blog was on Blogger.

It may take inserting some code into your blog, and then in each post. I'll see if I can find it.

Randy,
Thanks for the offer.
I think I then will need to use the labels or links to group the articles too, but I can do that. Maybe then I will have to learn how to get tabs to get to each groupings.

Hi Bruce - My advice - if you want to make money blogging, this is not the right platform. If you want to get serious and earn money you first need to move to a self-hosted solution, and probably Wordpress because it is by far the most popular. Do it now, while you are not making money, because once you are making decent money, making such a move is very difficult to do.

When you relocate on a better blogging platform, doing things like "read more" require nothing but the click of a button.

If you are unsure about this, do some research and found out which bloggers out there are making money. When you know that (not hard to find out), then look at what platform they are using. I know of no bloggers earning serious money on Blogger.

Just my thoughts.

Bob,
I know, and I have heard you in your presentations about that fact.
I have been procrastinating on buying my domain and getting a hosting service.
One thing I worry about is a smooth transition that visitors to my blogspot blog will be redirected to the new site. Then is the time to get enough time in to use some of the services.
Thanks for your advice. Maybe it was the kick in the a__ I needed.

Hi Bruce - I'll have to second Bob's advice, if nothing else because the longer you wait to move from Blogger to Wordpress (or whatever) the more difficult it will be.

I was able to redirect people to my new domain, and I've left my old one up for that purpose. What I lost was the search engine traffic, as my individual posts were not redirected.

You will probably lose organic traffic for a month or so. It will come back after the search engines get you indexed again. It hasn't helped my income any, but that's not really the fault of the platform.

Here's the link to an article about how to make your posts expandable. It's a bit complicated but works. I don't think it's going to help with your page views much though, to be honest. I saw no real difference. http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=42215&topic=12488
